News Plane incidents — 28 April 2017

A single-engine airplane crashed at the Stillwater Regional Airport late Friday morning.

Lt. Doug Nichols of the Stillwater Police Department said a pilot crashed in a Cessna airplane while attempting to land on a runway, causing damage to the front end of the aircraft.

The pilot, who was the only occupant in the airplane, was not injured, Nichols said.

An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the crash, he said.

An anonymous source with knowledge of the situation said the pilot was an Oklahoma State University student.

The student was on a solo flight in a Cessna 152 and landed the aircraft on its front tire first, which caused the crash, the source said.

Representatives of the OSU Flight Center declined to comment at this time.
