FLORENCE, Ariz. – A Mesa police officer piloting a helicopter was injured Thursday while making an emergency landing near Arizona Farms and Felix roads.
According to a spokesperson for Mesa police, the officer was on a training flight. The department sent a helicopter to locate the site of the hard landing.
The FAA said the helicopter experienced engine failure and the pilot was the only person on board.
According to the FAA, the pilot was not seriously injured, but there was “significant damage” to the helicopter.
A Mesa PD spokesperson said the officer was not flying a department helicopter. The FAA’s Registry showed the helicopter belonged to a flight training school based out of Falcon Field Airport.
The crash is currently under investigation.
