News Plane incidents — 01 October 2017

DOVER – The pilot of a small plane and a passenger escaped injury after the pilot overshot the runway at Chandelle Estates Airport just east of Dover, according to the Delaware State Police.

The incident took place at around 10:22 a.m. Saturday after the pilot of a 1971 Fixed Wing Single-Engine Cessna dialed 9-1-1 to report that the aircraft had overshot the runway.

Troopers, along with personnel from the Delaware Department of Transportation, responded to the scene where they found the small aircraft in the middle of Bayside Drive (Del. 9) between Silver Leaf Lane and White Oak Road.

Police said the pilot and one passenger were uninjured, but the plane sustained damage to the prop and front landing gear.

Chandelle Estates Airport located at 114 Kruser Boulevard.

Del. 9, between Silver Leaf Drive and White Oak Road, was closed for around an hour-and-a-half while the plane was removed from the roadway.

The investigation into the incident has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
