A single-engine plane went off the end of a runway at Riverside Municipal Airport on Friday and skidded to a stop in a dirt overrun, but no one was injured.
The accident, involving a Beech Bonanza, was reported about 1:25 p.m. on Runway 34 on the west end of the airfield facing Central Avenue.
An air traffic controller immediately requested assistance from the Riverside Fire Department, and personnel arrived less than 5 minutes later.
“The Bonanza apparently landed too long and went past a barrier at the end of the runway,” Division Chief Dave Bakas told City News Service. “All occupants got out. Nobody was hurt.”
The airport’s main runway, 9/27, is closed for maintenance, as are several sections of the aerodrome’s apron, which are being re-paved.
According to the airport’s automated information service, winds were about 15 mph.
